MANUFACTURERS WHO ARE not members of the Barbados Manufacturers’ Association (BMA) have been chided for only acknowledging the existence of the body when they are in a crisis.
This indictment came from the BMA’s executive director Bobbi McKay who said that the National Social Responsibility Levy was not as big a problem as manufacturers who did not see the benefits of joining a representative body.
McKay, speaking to the SATURDAY SUN yesterday following a meeting between manufacturers and the Barbados Revenue Authority to discuss the levy, said many of those who were still unsure about the levy were often those who were not part of the BMA.
“It is frustrating when they all benefit when we lobby . . . [but] they [only] call you when they are getting evicted or need something. They need to come on board so when I fight, I can fight for them all. They are getting a free ride and they got to stop,” she said. (CA)
