BEACHES RESORT in Barbados has been delayed yet again, and is now projected to be ready in 2019.

No specific reason was given for the postponement, though Adam Stewart, chief executive officer of the regional hotel conglomerate Sandals – owner of the Beaches brand – said that focus had shifted to improving the Sandals property at Dover, Christ Church.

“The opportunity to buy the land besides Sandals Barbados, the Dover Estate, took priority over Beaches. Getting an existing property and getting it to the scale that would be a world-class resort second to none anywhere in the region. Beaches will come behind that, but it has put a year’s delay in the Beaches plan,” he said.

Work on the property in Heywoods, St Peter, formerly the Almond Beach Village Resort, was initially set to begin in the second quarter of last year, but was pushed back due to unidentified “complexities”.  (WILLCOMM)
