ENCOURAGED by the success of taking the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) to the United States for the first time this year, organisers are eyeing a move to Canada for next year’s tournament.
After attracting more than 30 000 spectators for six matches played over four days at Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale, CPL chief executive officer Damien O’Donohoe has revealed that they will be meeting with officials of the Canada Cricket Association in two weeks.
Despite the success of the Florida leg of the tournament, the CPL incurred a loss for a fourth successive year, prompting them to explore other options.
“One of the things that we’ve always been wary of is for the standard of the product that the CPL is, it is very difficult to get this business to make sense in the Caribbean,” O’Donohoe told SUNSPORT.
