Hyatt claim

THE BARBADOS LABOUR PARTY (BLP) owes the country an explanation about its handling of the former site of the old Harbour Police Station property and Detco Motors.

The charge is coming from Minister of Industry Donville Inniss, who expressed concern that the Opposition was giving the impression that the proposed Hyatt Hotel on Bay Street, St Michael, was being done in an underhand manner.

At the same time, he questioned why the BLP would have allowed the site to get into the hands of Republic Bank Ltd through a failed project.

“That property was actually Government property; it was owned by the Crown and vested by the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc,” he explained. “And would you believe that the BLP took that Crown property and allowed it to be used by private enterprise as security to obtain a loan from a commercial bank?”  (TG/GE)
