Glad to be free

SIXTEEN YEARS AGO, Arleigh Hector James cried when he was ordered to spend the rest of his life behind bars for killing his wife.

Yesterday James was once again reduced to tears, this time after learning that he would be leaving the bars at HMP Dodds behind.

The 59-year-old is back in society today, but since his former neighbours in Newbury, St George, don’t want him there, he is living with his family at Lowlands, Christ Church.

In 1996, James was sentenced to hang for brutally chopping his wife Deborah, 35, to death on May 23, 1994. When he was finished, her neck was barely hanging on by 3.5 centimetres. Her daughter was also dead. A son who was hiding under a bed, escaped. (HLE)
