THE UNITED STATES has been slammed by a regional leader for contributing to the growing serious crimes and murders in the Caribbean.
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has only been in office for one month following his big election victory in St Lucia on June 6, but already he has criticised the hemispheric superpower for dumping thousands of criminal deportees on the Caribbean, many of whom had little relationship with their new homelands.
In an exclusive interview with the NATION on the weekend in which he touched several topics, Chastanet called the US repatriation policy “horrific”.
He charged that while the US was dumping thousands of criminals on the doorsteps of small island states, it was at the same time slashing the funds it was spending to shore up security in the Caribbean.
