Bajan boys miss third spot

BARBADOS won’t be heading to Centrobasket.

The Bajan boys fell just short of qualifying for the next level, having squandered a double-digit fourth-quarter lead before losing yesterday’s heart-breaking third-place game 66-58 against Jamaica in the Caribbean Basketball Confederation’s Under-16 tournament in Guyana.

Playing at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Barbados led 49-39 before surrendering 11 unanswered points to start the period and then watching Jamaica close out the contest on a game-winning 9-2 run.

It was the rather disheartening finish to a tournament in which Barbados promised so much after starting positively by winning their first three games.

But the ultramarine and gold finished the competition on a three-game losing streak, highlighted by successive blowout losses to finalists Guyana and The Bahamas.
