Barbados’ best sprinter now has his choice of events to do at Rio, having also qualified for the Olympics in the 200 metres following Sunday night’s title-winning effort at the National Stadium.
It was the highlight performance of an action-filled final session of the National Championships that witnessed three new meet records, including Rio-bound Sada Williams’ 22.88 seconds in the women’s 200 metres.
Having already won the 100 in 10.09 seconds one night earlier, the 28-year-old Gittens treated the home crowd to his second title in as many nights with an Olympic-qualifying time of 20.42 seconds in just his second 200 for the season. (JM)
