THE STAGING OF Soca Royale at Bushy Park is not in jeopardy.
Barbadians have been assured that nothing will stop the July 24 jam, despite the controversy surrounding businessman Mark Maloney and the leasing of the property to the Barbados Motor Racing Federation, and the charge that Government is yet to compensate the previous owners for the property that was compulsorily acquiredin 2010.
Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley made that definitive statement to the DAILY NATION last night.
“There will be no impact on Soca Royale. Under the licensing arrangement under which Bushy Park operates, by virtue of the licence with the Crown, the Government has always had a reservation in that licence allowing the Government to utilise Bushy Park free of cost for national, cultural events, including, but not limited to, Crop Over. So that’s always been a reservation, which means that it goes with the licence. So there will not be any challenge at all,” Lashley said. (YB)
