Unhealthy work places cause of poor productivity

POOR HEALTH AND SAFETY STANDARDS combined with maintenance issues have been blamed for low productivity by independent Senator John Watson.

And he used the example of the new Barbados Water Authority building in The Pine, pointing to increased output by its employees.

Watson was speaking at the launch of World Facilities Management Day Conference and Exhibition at the Barbados Yellow Pages, 7th Avenue Belleville, St Michael today.

Watson said he believed health and safety, along with management of the physical work spaces led to higher productivity, but Government, though striving for such, had been failing for various reasons.

The conference is the first of its kind and was organised by Operations Manager of ACE Project Solutions Janelle Chandler. Speakers will address health and safety issues during the July 13 and 14 conference at Savannah Hotel.

Chandler said Facilities Management is an inter-disciplinary field which centres on the built environment and the impact it has on people and the work place. (MR)
