MINISTER OF HOUSING AND Member of Parliament for St Lucy Denis Kellman is continuing his call for an airport at The Hope, St Lucy despite the many criticisms and jokes.

He repeated his call after a ceremony and tree planting at the Ministry of Housing this morning to launch the ministry’s 50th anniversary of Independence celebrations.

Kellman, who is just back from Mexico where the discussion about building airports for growth was held, said Barbados cannot stand on one leg with one airport.

“You see what a strike did, what effect it had on the airport? Just imagine if we had a plane crash. We would have to send all of our business elsewhere. And what I’m asking is not to replicate what we have at Grantley Adams International Airport, but to build an international runway, with the necessary infrastructure. . . .We just need the facilities for clearance, if we have an emergency to ensure that our tourism and our service industry is not affected,” Kellman argued.
