THE UP AGAIN, down again tale of White Hill, St Andrew, is decidedly down again.
The road, connecting Hillaby on one side to Cane Garden and the heart of St Andrew on the other, is again in a deplorable state. Residents were feeling hopeful in December last year when personnel from the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) came out in force and constructed a temporary road in a matter of days.
However, they said the ministry then appeared to have waged a losing battle against gravity because in a few months, the marl started to slip away into the gully as fast as they could replace it, and last month road closure signs were erected again.
“The supervisor said work on a permanent road was to start two weeks ago. The road was good then, I can’t believe it move so much so fast – it had looked so good but now it always dropping, every day a little deeper. It’s just a matter of time . . . ,” said shop owner Suzanne Jemmott. (CA)
