THE CONDUCT of the West Indies players in the aftermath of their capture of the World Twenty20 has been no-balled by cricket’s governing body.

While offering its congratulations to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for achieving an unprecedented treble by winning the men’s and women’s events and the Under-19 World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) yesterday strongly condemned the actions of some of the players during post-match celebrations.

After the completion of the men’s final, which the West Indies won in dramatic fashion against England in India on April 3, captain Darren Sammy, speaking during a television interview that was aired across the globe, openly expressed his frustration by what he described as a lack of support from the WICB in the lead-up to the championship match and added that the players felt disrespected by the board.

In a statement issued yesterday after a board meeting at its Dubai headquarters on Sunday, the ICC reprimanded some of the players. (HG)
