MQI 98.1 The One Soca Monarch Michael Mikey Mercer was excited to collect his new, shiny red Mazda BT-50 yesterday.

But he won’t be keeping it.

“I’ll be selling, but purchasing one from MQI for sure,” the Action Time Again singer said moments after collecting the keys from Margaret Hoyte, sales manager of title sponsor McEnearney Quality Inc., and the insurance from Brydens’ underwriting manager Patti Carter.

“I love the vehicle. I love a truck; it real spacious. I test drove it and had a fantastic time. It was a real nice drive,” he said.

Mikey earned 98 points to beat Lil Rick and Lead Pipe to grab the trophy, the BT50 and $20 000 in cash on July 28.

Meanwhile, Hoyte said they would continue discussions with the National Cultural Foundation (NCF).

“We are committed, but the thing is, as you know, things are changing. NCF has been changing in how they have been doing things. So we have to sit down and go to the drawing table and see how we will move on for next year because things are changing,” she added.

Asked about offering another BT-50 as the top prize next year, Hoyte said the jury was still out. (RA)
