WHEN SCOTIABANK opened operations in Barbados on August 20, 1956 at the Mussons Sugar Bond in Lower Broad Street, Muriel La Forte was among the first Barbadians to deposit savings in the new Canadian bank. Six decades later, she is still banking with Scotia.
Yesterday, her loyalty was acknowledged with the presentation of a plaque at Scotiabank’s Broad Street branch during the launch of 60th anniversary celebrations.
Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler got an interesting earful from La Forte about the banking experience during the age of the bank book and the bank manager, who was then revered as a community figure. (GC)
