Nation has lost our precious Petra

STAFF OF THE Nation Publishing Co Limited awoke yesterday morning to the sad and shocking news that a young member of their sports reporting team, Petra Gooding, had passed away hours earlier at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

Gooding, 31, had been admitted the previous week after complaining of not feeling well soon after returning from Grenada where she had covered the Carifta Games for the Nation and Starcom Network. She joined the staff at the Nation on June 22, 2015, after spending approximately five years with the Barbados Advocate.

Editor-in-Chief at the Nation, Roy R. Morris, described Gooding as a dedicated, energetic and loyal member ofthe company’s news-gathering team, who held her own admirably in an area that has traditionally been dominated by men.

In fact, her outstanding coverage of the 2016 schools’ athletic season and the Carifta Games led to her selection for the Reporter Of The Month Award, which would have been presented to her tomorrow. (RRM)
