Christians in Barbados and around the world observed Palm Sunday yesterday during worship services.
In the north, St Peter’s Anglican Church, Speightstown Methodist Church and the Nazarene Church came together and held a procession to mark Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Later He would be arrested and crucified.
Members made a trek from St Peter’s Parish Church through Speightstown, on to Goodings Alley, Chapel Street, along the Speightstown Bypass Road, Church Street and back at the Anglican church, with many carrying palm branches in their hands and singing traditional hymns such as Onward Christian Soldiers and Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus.
Among the clergy on hand were St Peter’s rector, Canon Peter Haynes, and Methodist minister George Clarke. The procession was accompanied by a detachment from the Boy Scouts.
