THERE IS $36 million standing between the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) and industrial action by workers represented by the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) over an increments dispute going back some ten years.

This was disclosed yesterday by Minister responsible for Water Resource Management Dr David Estwick, during debate in the House of Assembly on the Appropriations Bill 2016.

Estwick told the Lower Chamber that he was not sure whether it would be a strike or a work-to-rule; but even as he spoke, the BWU was reporting, even less specifically, that the workers were “off the job”.

The minister said industrial action at this time of a water crisis would only worsen the situation and if Government were to meet the demands, it would bankrupt the BWA for the next 25 years. (AB)
