RESIDENTS of Four Hill, St Peter, refused to sugar-coat how they felt after fields of ripe canes were bulldozed and cleared from a sizeable area near their homes.
One resident who preferred to remain anonymous, described the event as unfortunate.
“I think it is hard. Those canes are being pushed down and the crop soon start,” she said.
The small farmer added she understood a housing development was planned for the land, which was once planted with acres of sugar cane.
“If the lot is being sold at least they could wait until the crop finish and come back. Right now we short of sugar cane and they shouldn’t do it,” the resident of the area for 12 years said.
