CUT DOWN the tree!

That was the urgent call last night from president of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU), Mary Redman, after continued reports of teachers and students at Combermere School falling ill.

Redman’s call came after a teacher reportedly collapsed at the Waterford, St Michael school yesterday, and was forced to seek urgent medical attention.

“If it is the tree, to my mind, it’s simple. The tree is not the only one of its type in Barbados; it is not a tree of any historical, cultural or environmental significance to the immediate community or the wider society.
