REMOVE DUTIES from a wider range of sporting goods!

That was the call by Member of Parliament for St James North, Edmund Hinkson, during a presentation ceremony by the Clarkson Foundation to West Side Tennis at the Folkestone Park on Thursday.

Hinkson said the development of the nation’s youth through sport needed to be taken more seriously and the monetary donation was the first step in doing so.

He said that legislation had been passed, prohibiting taxes being attached to sporting goods entering the island, but this was only for a minority of products.

“There are only limited amounts that come in duty-free and it is a situation where the Government has to look and see how to expand the base of sporting goods that could come in duty-free,” he said.
