FIRST, the work done at King George V Park is a beauty to behold and I must congratulate all concerned. It is a pity some people did not realise this, and it is encouraging to learn that they may be a part of the upcoming celebrations for our 50th year of Independence.
I heard on the radio some assurance about the scope and competence of those selected in the planning and I strongly urge the including of training for all those, especially in government offices, who deal with enquiries from the public . . . local and visiting alike.
The reason for my concern is this: I called a telephone blue page listing for a Government office which is involved with the lighting of the park to ask when the last night for the Christmas lighting would be. I wished the person who answered all the best for the New Year and asked my question. The answer was “I do not know.”
I then asked who would know . . . . The answer was, “I do not know who would know.” I then asked: “What do you know?” The answer was “I know that I living.” I asked no further questions, thanked him and ended my call saying, “Well, you keep on living”, as at that moment I thought I saw one of the pointed tips of our broken trident hurtling directly towards his mouth.
