Haynes’ shot for youth

A MULTITALENTED sportsman is the winner of the first scholarship awarded by the Desmond Haynes Foundation.

Keon Harding, a former Combermere student, who is skilled in cricket, football and track and field, is the recipient.

Explaining the thinking behind the establishment of the scholarship, Haynes, a former Barbados and West Indies opening batsman, said yesterday he was making an investment in the future of young cricketers, remembering the kindness that was bestowed upon him during his early years in the game.

“In my life I got a lot of help and decided to start the Desmond Haynes Foundation, where I looked to raise some money to help young cricketers to further their education because I want them to have that mix with education and sport,” he told MIDWEEKSPORT.
