Highlight outstanding deeds of ordinary citizens too

AROUND year-end and the New Year, publications and broadcasts are produced with titles such as Personalities Of The Year and Highlights Of The Year.

A repeated feature of these productions is the focus on high-profile professionals, community and business leaders and politicians, with significant omissions of other citizens and organisations performing noble and outstanding acts of bravery, charity and honesty.

Year after year, there are people and events that can rightfully take their place in Personalities Of The Year or Highlights Of The Year but somehow fall short of the mark.

During the year 2015, television viewers, radio listeners and newspaper readers were informed of various notable events that included, among others:

Hotel workers, taxi drivers and other locals returning lost money, jewellery and other valuables to visitors.

Individuals rescuing a visitor off the Animal Flower Cave.

Policemen rescuing a female from a well.

A wandering, visually-impaired male being assisted by two schoolboys.

Young Barbadian athletes excelling at track & field events at national and regional level.

The daily services being rendered by the Salvation Army.

The above are the type of positive items that can be included in the columns of those yearly productions, rather than some of the individuals and events that impact minimally on our citizenry and those who visit our shores.
