Sailor freed of cursing superior

IT TOOK A military court ten minutes to release a sailor from internal charges of cursing his superior and behaviour unbecoming of the post.

However, before freeing Ordinary Seaman Christopher Broome, president of the three-man tribunal Major Christopher Birch reminded him that the Barbados Defence Force is a military organisation and instructions should be carried out without question.

Broome, who is attached to the engineering division of the Barbados Coast Guard at Spring Garden, St Michael, went on trial before the court comprising Major Birch, Major Ryan Smith and Captain Donville Dash.

He had been accused of using insubordinate language to a superior officer by allegedly telling Leading Seaman Adam Sealy, “You can’t mean *** me,” and conduct to the prejudice of the good order and military discipline by behaving in a manner that was unbecoming of a sailor on April 7. (AC)
