BARBADOS WELCOMED JUST over 60 000 more visitors up to October than the same period in 2014, an increase of 14.7 per cent.

“These results are not accidental,” Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner told members of the Senate yesterday, attributing the performance to six to eight years of steady, hard work by those in the industry.

“The results did not just drop in our laps, sitting and waiting for economic conditions to turn around. We were working under all of that criticism, under all of that pressure, the Ministry of Tourism was working because we knew the global conditions would have to change.”

She made the comments during debate of a resolution for Government to borrow  $240 million from China to redevelop the 57-acre Sam Lord’s Castle in St Philip into a 450-room property. (WILLCOMM)
