THERE HAS BEEN a decline in the number of students participating in tourism graduate courses at the University of the West Indies (UWI) and that decline may be the worst yet.
This observation comes from coordinator of graduate studies tourism programmes at UWI, Dr Sherma Roberts, who said that there were only seven students enrolled in the tourism destination management course this year as opposed to 20 last year.
“This year has been maybe the worst in terms of numbers. This class would normally have about a dozen and up. I mean, seven is not bad, but it is not the norm,” she said.
Roberts, who was speaking at a ceremony where students delivered research projects on local tourism, also said that many students postponed their enrolment maybe because of finances. (TSG)
