CABLE & WIRELESS Communications (CWC) is reporting increased revenue and profits in Barbados.
CWC chief executive officer Phil Bentley, speaking today during a teleconference from London in which the company’s half year interim financial results were released, said Barbados revenues were US$90 million while profits were US$33 million, a four per cent increase.
Bentley said CWC had invested an additional US$26 million in Barbados and was “looking to get a return on that investment”.
The CEO, who is scheduled to visit Barbados “in a couple weeks” also regretted outages caused as the merged entity’s networks were integrated.
He said complaints here were substantially reduced and they have “got on top of the problems that we have had”.
“What I am hearing is that the outtages were pretty much tied to all of the technology change and we are pretty much through that. We still have some customers to migrate onto fibre and there will always be some challenges to make sure that’s right and [that there is] a good customer experience,” he said.
“So we accept that our network performance was less than what we would have liked it to be in Barbados but I am pretty confident that we are on top of that now.”
CWC’s overall half year performance report showed that group revenue was US$1.2 billion, up four per cent, while profits were US$427 million, a four per cent increase. (SC)
