Edwin’s in charge

THE GENERAL traded in his combat boots and soca weapons for a white suit and red sneakers. And just like he told his friends in Party Ah De Year, the 2015 Sweet Soca winning song, Mahalia’s Corner, at the Hilton Barbados, was the place to be.

It was around 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, and the estimated 350 people waited in anticipation for soca monarch Edwin Yearwood. And before he graced the stage at the Hilton Hotel’s Needham Point Ballroom, screams of “General! General!” could be heard all around the room.

When he stepped on the stage, he was embraced by rippling screams of adoration. Calming the crowd, he let them know his set would be nostalgic, yet current.

In the set was songs such as Something Greater Than Me and the audience even sang along to Whole Night Long.
