THE SUPREME COURT has to pay out a whopping $150 000 a month just in electricity costs, but Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson says plans are on the way to slash this bill by “going green”.
Addressing Supreme Court No. 1 yesterday to herald the start of the 2015-2016 legal year, he said as a result of the $1.8 million annual cost, they were now focusing on installing “photovoltaic cells on the roof of the building to generate our own power supply”.
Sir Marston said the move would help to save thousands of dollars and hoped that “savings will return to the High Court to continue . . . efforts in improving the way business is done at Whitepark Road and the magistrates’ court”.
