Region steady in AIDS fight

BARBADOS AND THE Caribbean are doing so well in terms of the fight against HIV/AIDS and the stigma and discrimination associated with it that resources have been shifted away.

USAID mission director for the Eastern and Southern Caribbean, Christopher Cushing, said this was done last year and was still in place.

“In 2014, the Caribbean Regional PEPFAR (President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) programme was forced to make a substantial shift in programming in an effort to accelerate progress towards epidemic control in the region.

“These shifts have meant prioritising resources and programming to countries, districts and facilities where the evidence demonstrates the highest disease burden,” he said.
