INSURANCE COVERAGE for classic cars in Barbados is coming.
Word of this came from Roger Spencer, assistant vice-president, marketing, at Sagicor General, recently as he spoke at the Barbados Association of Classic Cars (BACC) Courtesy Garage Classic Car Revival at Content, St Thomas.
“We are listening to the needs of owners of these important vehicles and will be meeting with officials of the Barbados Association of Classic Cars to further discuss the matter,” he added.
According to the Sagicor official, it would be coverage tailored to suit the needs of the owners who only drive these kinds of cards on special occasions and at specific times of the year.
The new coverage, he said, would be added to the existing lines of coverage which includes comprehensive and third party and the road rescue service under which all Sagicor clients are covered.
“Comprehensive coverage covers medical expenses up to $1 000 and personal injury coverage is up to $10 000,” he noted.
Coverage, he added, also included damage by an uninsured driver, and loss of use; the standard of which is seven days, but which can go on for as long as 28 days if required.
In a wide-ranging speech, Spencer said the company was also pleased with the response it has been receiving from their latest initiative Drive Pal, a new product primarily targetting the young and inexperienced drivers, as well as for parents children had recently acquired their driver’s licences.
“It is a system which monitors the driving habits of the new person and in the case of a young driver, a parent can set the speed limit and if the child exceeds it an email goes to the parent through a private online system,” he noted.
It also monitors, he said, harsh braking and cornering, and can save parents money on premiums if the youngster does not break the speed limits and the guidelines.
BACC secretary George Ullyett, said were looking forward to the new coverage and that all owners stood to benefit.
“We have been talking about this for many years and now it’s about to come to fruition. We are excited about the prospect and will be meeting with Sagicor to help them fine tune it and put it in place,” he added.
