IT WAS A long wait for scores of taxpayers who descended on the Barbados Revenue Authority’s offices at Oistins, Christ Church this morning to cash in on the rebate on their land tax bills.
Some people were at the offices from as early as 5:45 a.m. but by 7 a.m. the foyer was packed with about 50 people who fell into line without very much bother.
A government security guard eventually came and seemed overwhelmed by the numbers but soon, with the help of the patrons, got an understanding of how the line was running.
Things almost got out of hand when a private security guard arrived on the scene and immediately declared that he was not interested about “anybody in the line” and that he wanted “to see numbers “.
This is when patrons were thrown into frenzy and declared that he was behaving like the character Tubby The Guard.
Police arrived on the scene to ensure there was order as some people wanted to use the confusion to jump the line.
Taxpayers eventually got into actual office about 8:50 to pay their bills.
But the line of people stretched to the outside and they had to use their umbrellas to shade from the morning sun. (JS)
