Two prisoners escape, policeman killed in T&T prison break

PORT OF SPAIN – The Trinidad Express is reporting two men have escaped, a policeman was shot and killed and a prison officer injured in a break out from the Port of Spain jail.

The attack happened shortly after noon when the gate was opened to allow a prison vehicle to enter.  

A third prisoner, Allan Skanny Martin, was also killed in the break out, while Hassan Atwell and Christopher Selby are on the run.

Initial reports are that the several gunmen ran through the entrance and were involved in a shootout.

However, the getaway vehicle crashed near Port of Spain General Hospital, and the occupants ran through the hospital compound. There was more shooting and at least two people were captured.

It is uncertain how the prison officer was injured. (Trinidad Express)
