Ramon Gittens gets silver in men’s 100 metres

SPRINTER RAMON GITTENS won Barbados’ second medal today at the Pan American Games in Toronto.

Drawn in lane seven of the men’s 100 metres final, Gittens finished second in 10.07 seconds to take silver ahead of St Kitts’ Antoine Adams (10.09).

Canadian Andre De Grasse, the NCAA double sprint champion, took the gold in 10.05 seconds (+1.1 wind) tonight.

Barbados’ national champion Levi Cadogan finished eighth in 10.18 seconds.

Jamaica’s Sherone Simpson won the women’s race in 10.95 seconds from lane eight.

Angela Tenorio of Ecuador was second in 10.99 and bronze went to American Barbara Pierre in 11.01.

It was Barbados’ second medal for the day.

Earlier, Akela Jones won a bronze medal in the high jump, clearing a personal best 1.91 metres. (SAT)
