SOME GOOD OFFICERS were overlooked for promotion, new names would appear after some that had been already agreed upon, and as a result morale was low in the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF).
This was the picture painted yesterday by acting Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith, as he appeared on the first day of the civil case brought by over a dozen officers challenging their non-promotion under the reign of Commissioner Darwin Dottin three years ago.
In Supreme Court No.3, where Dottin listened to the proceedings, Griffith said he raised concerns, before becoming acting commissioner, about “lack of transparency” in the promotion process.
Griffith, who joined the force in 1975 and took up his acting appointment on June 17, 2013, said he had had difficulties with promotions since 1998 starting under Commissioner Grantley Watson and continuing under Dottin. (Coastline Communication)
