New technology policy coming for schools

THE BARBADOS GOVERNMENT could be easing restrictions on the use of cell phones in schools from September.

Minister of Education Ronald Jones indicated this today during an address at the Erdiston Teachers’ Training College.

Jones said Government was looking to roll out a “wider policy” on the use of phones, computers and other technology when the next school term starts in September. This would follow “full consultation” with stakeholders in education, including principals.

According to Jones, students would still not be allowed “to take out your cell phone in the classroom and make a call”, but the new policy would be emphasising the need to use the available technology for learning. (TY)
