UNTIL LAST YEAR, Evelyn Greaves was Barbados’ top diplomat in Canada and he easily recalls how Barbados weathered a storm that could have severely damaged a key sector of its economy.
“Barbados was being accused unfairly by two major national media organisations in Canada of facilitating money laundering and of being a tax haven,” said Greaves, a former Cabinet minister.
“The allegations were patently false but we also knew the potential harm they could have caused to Barbados’ reputation and its financial services sector if we didn’t get our message across. That’s when Eugene Melnyk reached out to us at the High Commission.
