THE POLICE OFFICER accused of murdering Selwyn “Blues” Knight will not be appearing in court before August, and by then his preliminary trial is expected to begin.
When Constable Everton Randolph Gittens was taken back before Acting Magistrate Alliston Seale yesterday – 28 days after first being charged with the March 15 murder of Knight, recklessly engaging in conduct which placed Knight’s son Junior Knight in danger of death or serious bodily harm, and wounding Junior with intent to maim, disfigure or disable him – his lawyer made a special request.
Attorney Angella Mitchell-Gittens informed Seale, before a packed District “A” Criminal Court 2 yesterday morning, that Gittens had decided, in consultation with her and his other attorney Desmond Sands, to waive his right to reappear in the next 28 days, and be brought back to court within three months instead.
