Scores of athletes are in fierce competition on the track and in the field as secondary schools host their annual Inter-House Track and Field Championships.
It is the lead up to the much anticipated annual primary and secondary schools track meet next month. Already, there have been some dazzling performances in the sprint events with more expected in the coming weeks. Yesterday, the battle was joined at Alexandra School and Alleyne School.
Hundreds of present and past students of Alleyne School created a party-like atmosphere at the Lakes ground in St Andrew. Even in the midst of their mourning for the late Ronald “Concorde” Thorne, there was lots to celebrate.
Strong breezes cooled the heat of the blazing sun, but no one could put out the fire of Haynes (Red) House which won its fifth title in the last seven years.
Meanwhile, at the National Stadium, O’neal House was dominating the Alexandra sports.
In a blaze of yellow and encouraged by cheerleaders, their athletes tore up the tracks. It was the House’s fifth year of success.
