AG: Prepare for natural disasters

ATTORNEY GENERAL and Minister of Home Affairs Adriel Brathwaite does not want to see Barbadians waving white flags for international aid if the island is struck by a natural disaster.
That’s why he is calling on them to be responsible for their own preparedness in anticipation of this year’s active hurricane season.
Brathwaite was speaking at St Philip’s Parish Church yesterday to signal the launch of the hurricane season which, according to forecasters, will be busy with about 17 named storms, including five major hurricanes.
“My readings suggest that the whole issue of aid will be seriously compromised because most of the developing nations that we now rely on for aid are now themselves having serious challenges. So I believe . . . that we would have to be more self-reliant. (JS)
