Lack of sporting facilities

THE LACK of proper facilities is hampering the professionalism of sport in Barbados.
This is the view of former Deputy Prime Minister Mia Mottley, who has been busy over the past few weeks trying to get the Paradise Park AstroTurf facility at the Lazaretto ready for the start of the inaugural LIME Pelican Out-Of-Season Football Tournament.
As a result, Sunday’s opening ceremony and first two matches in the tournament, which carries a first prize of $100 000, have been switched to the National Stadium, which was originally unavailable.
“Part of the difficulty that we have in Barbados regrettably is that we do not have adequate facilities that are fenced in that would allow for admission and allow for payment by patrons.
