Jones: Low-score worry

THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION is to carry out an analysis to determine why students are scoring below 30 per cent in the  the Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination (BSSEE).
Speaking to the Press on Monday about this year’s scores, Jones said there had been improvements in maths scores in the last three years, but he said they remained concerned about students at the lower end.
This year’s results show that between 18 and 20 per cent of students scored below 30 per cent in math, which represents a total of 722 students out of the 3 970 who wrote the May 8 exam.
“We have to find out why because there could be many reasons which would cause those students to have severe cognitive defects.
