West Indies lost to Sri Lanka by nine wickets yesterday to leave their semi-final chances in the ICC World Twenty20 hanging in the balance.
Opting to bat first at the Pallekele International Stadium in Sri Lanka, the Caribbean side were restricted to an inadequate 129 for five off their 20 overs.
Mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis strangled the powerful line-up, claiming two for 12 from four stingy overs.
The heavy defeat means West Indies must beat New Zealand in their last Super Eights match tomorrow to stand a chance of making the final four.
West Indies’ problems started in the fifth over when opener Johnson Charles (above), whose 84 helped set up victory against England on Thursday, charged Mendis and missed. Wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara completed an easy stumping.
