JOSH?BURKE produced an outstanding performance to place second in the Open Juniors division at the recently concluded 2013 NSSA East Coast Regional Championships at the New Smyrna Beach in Florida.
He was pipped for first place by Florida’s Stevie Pittman with fellow Barbadian Che Allan placing third. Luke Marks finished fourth.
Home boy Pittman started the final with back to back waves that connected all the way to the inside after performing outside manoeuvres to take the lead from the start of the 25-minute heat. Burke surfed well on the waves he got, scoring a 6.1 and a 5.5. However, requiring a 9.84 score, he was unable to find a connecting wave.
In the Open boys division, young, rising Barbadian surfing star, 12-year-old Jacob Burke, placed a commendable fourth after surfing solid in the two to four foot wind choppy conditions in his first NSSA (National Scholastic Surfing Association) Championships.
Allan also competed in the fun type event and was crowned champion in the Explorer Juniors division while Josh Burke placed fourth. (RB)
