Pay snag for temps

Come?Monday,?thousands of temporary civil servants will not be paid.
That is because their names have been removed from Government’s payroll system, known as Smartstream, pending new authorization from Government.
The action follows the announcement by Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler during last week’s Budget that there will be a freeze on hiring in the central Public Service and across all statutory entities.
He also announced a $30 million reduction in the $121.78 million provided in the 2013/2014 Estimates for temporary posts/employees.
When contacted, the general secretary of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Dennis Clarke, confirmed that “the authority to pay some people has not come through”.
He told the WEEKEND?NATION:?“It would appear as if they are not being paid. The problem is nobody knew what was going on until after the Budget. I have spoken to the personnel agencies and they have informed me that they were not given any instructions.”
