After last week’s?thrilling finish to the Goddard Enterprises Limited Senior Volleyball Knockout Competition, the league season will begin this evening with six games promising predictable results.
The action begins at 4 p.m. at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex with Freekz Customz Chargers favoured to beat Club United.
Defending champions Warrens Jaguars are expected to surpass their late season meltdown in the knockout to easily defeat Toners at 5:30 a.m.
The women’s feature match at 7 p.m. pits RBC Carlton against the knockout losing finalists Brydens Rockets. The Rockets just failed to do the double last year after a hiccup in their final game allowed Warrens to slip through and win their first cup.
Knockout kings Chargers are heavily favoured to score the double this season and their 5:30 p.m. match with Foundation United will hardly give an indication of what Chargers will achieve in the league after finishing the knockout without dropping a match.
The men’s action begins with a battle between Progressive and the Juniors which should go Progressive’s way. Sandy Crest Medical Centre Deacons are mulling over their five-sets loss in the knockout finals to Chargers and they will want to take away Chargers’ league title.
That seven o’clock game between Deacons and Cawmere will be a slug fest between Deacons’ attackers and Shawn Simpson of Cawmere whose style of volleyball is pure offence.
Deacons’ additional attackers and better defence should give them the game against the unpredictable Cawmere. (KB)
