LIABILITY CLAIMS have been made against several Government agencies for breaching their responsibilities under the Shops Act in the September 3, 2010 fire at Campus Trendz store, Tudor Street, The City, which took the lives of six young women.
Coordinator of the September 3 Foundation and attorney representing the families of three of the victims, David Comissiong, said yesterday the Chief Fire Officer, the Barbados Fire Service, the Chief Labour Officer and the Minister of Labour and Social Security were liable either in negligence, or as a result of breaches in statutory duties imposed upon them.
He was speaking at a Press conference at the Clement Payne Cultural Centre, Crumpton Street, Bridgetown.
The Attorney General, owner of the property Kaliash Pardasani, store proprietor Bibi Shameela Ally, accused Renaldo Alleyne, who pleaded guilty, and another accused, who entered a not-guilty plea, have been included in the claim. Both men are at Her Majesty’s Prisons, Dodds.
