SURF’S UP

The 2013 Independence Pro Surfing Challenge opened yesterday at Soup Bowl, Bathsheba, with the men taking to the high surf at this country’s most popular surfing venue.
Local surfers Josh Burke and Che Allan performed admirably, each gaining top spots in their sets with the respective scores of 8.83 and 11.17.
World champion surfer Tom Curren also took to the high tide, scoring 12.67 on his first run and 12.50 on his second run, showing that he will be a hard man to beat as the event climaxes this weekend.
Other notable mentions were Noe Mar McGonagle with a score of 13.43 on his first run and 13.94 on his second. Blake Jones, with a score of 12.50 on his first run and 13.94 on his second, showed he will be
a main contender, while Georgio Gomez, and Icah Wilmont also hit the waves hard as a super warm-up to action for the next two days.
