Otherwise, what do people mean by being baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized on their behalf? Why am I in peril every hour? – (1 Corinthians 15: 29 -30).OH WHAT A FRIDAY it was on February 28, 2014! It was a day of which there were many activities in Bridgetown, Barbados.
There were the celebrations of the 375th Anniversary of the Parliament of Barbados, Agrofest exhibition and 10 000 visitors from the cruise ships.
I do believe that it was the first time the country was faced with such activities in one day and they came off well.
The historic city of Bridgetown became a focal point of activity in a splendid and colourful display of pomp, culture, and military precision.
It all came together as the island celebrated the 375th Anniversary of Parliament. The Parliament of Barbados is the third oldest in the commonwealth and last Friday marked the start of the 375th anniversary celebrations. It is a historic moment for the country and it should be celebrated. It was a very significant milestone in the history of Barbados.
It was a proud moment for me to be there because such an occasion only comes once in one’s life time. When Parliament reaches its 400th anniversary, some of us would have fallen asleep in Jesus Christ. We have to make haste while the sun shines.
All those who were responsible for the planning must be congratulated for a job which was well done. The members of the Royal Barbados Police Force must also be congratulated for the professional way they carried out their duties, especially when it came to the dealing with the traffic, which they had under controlled. There is no doubt that we have a very good Police Force in Barbados ,of which we can be proud.
When it comes to Agrofest, which was one of the biggest and best in its history, it showed that Barbados is still a peaceful and violence-free country. When Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave and other Government ministers were able to attend the Agrofest exhibition and walk about and view the exhibits, this speaks volumes for Barbados.
Over all it was a very good weekend in all areas. Let us keep it up. Barbados is still our country.
